Each color formulation has a different benefit.  Black is for areas of high flexibility found in modern cars and has the most resistance to oil.  Grey has the highest torque load and rigidity, great for areas with high vibration and closed bolt patterns.  Red is for areas that experience high amounts of thermal cycling, not just high temperatures.
